This page contains three special categories of textures: Texture Sets, Processed Textures, HDRI Light Probe Images. These textures are all on this page because they're different from conventional texture photographs.

TEXTURE SETS

This category includes textures that I've created from 3D geometry instead of photographs. In addition to the basic diffuse map, each of these texture sets also includes a normal map and a height map. The texture sets are tiling and some are very high resolution (2048x2048!). They're saved in Targa (TGA) format for better quality but that also makes the file size quite large.

I created these to help me learn about creating normal maps and writing shaders in Cg. You can learn more about how to make and use normal maps from my tutorials here.

LIGHT PROBES

A light probe is a high dynamic range image that records all of the light in an environment coming in to a specific point. Light probe images can be used together with a global illumination renderer (like Mental Ray) to light a 3D object with the light from a real environment. They're also really good for creating cube maps that can be used in real-time applications.

I created these light probe images just so I could learn how to do it. They're in HDR format so you'll need HDRShop to view them.

PROCESSED TEXTURES

This is the spot where I'm going to post all of the textures that I've processed so that they're ready to be used without needing any additional work. Some of these textures are tilable. Some have alpha channels painted. All of them are power of 2 resolution so they're ready to be used for real-time 3D!
